Blogger for Life??

Can't believe this could be my last ever blog post! I remember back when we first got this assignment the thought of blogging freaked me out, but I've come to like it now.

I can see how people can become addicted to it, but I can also see how people make great money out of it.

It a great way of doing business as Blogging shrinks the world. It brings communication to a new level on the internet. The blog is so very popular these days that millions of people are talking to one another through their blogs right this very moment. It is a fantastic platform by which marketers are able to reach out to millions of potential buyers on the internet.

My over all blogging experience has shown me just how easy blogging is and opened my eyes for the future, because blogging seems to be the way forward.

On July 31st  2006, Technorati tracked its 50 millionth blog. The blogosphere is doubling about once every 6 and a half months about 175,000 new weblogs are created each day, there are more than two blogs created each second of each day
about 1.6 Million postings per day, or about 18.6 posts per second.

So maybe this won't be my last blog post after all…you will all just have to wait and see ;)

But for now Happy Christmas everyone and hope you all have a great time.

Is M-commerce the new E-commerce??

M-commerce or mobile commerce is known as the buying and selling of goods and services through wireless handheld devices such as mobile phones and PDA's. M-commerce enables users to access the internet without needing to find a place to plug in. The emerging technology behind m-commerce, which is based on the Wireless Application Protocol also known as WAP, has made for greater strides in Europe, where mobile devices equipped with Web-ready micro-browsers are much more common than in the United States. In order to exploit the m-commerce market potential, handset manufacturers such as Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, and Qualcomm are working with carriers such as AT&T Wireless and Sprint to develop WAP-enabled smart phones. As content delivery over wireless devices becomes faster, more secure, and scalable, there is wide speculation that m-commerce will surpass wire line e-commerce as the method of choice for digital commerce transactions.

The industries which have been affected by m-commerce are the following, Financial services, which includes mobile banking (when customers use their handheld devices to access their accounts and pay their bills) as well as brokerage services, in which stock quotes can be displayed and trading conducted from the same handheld device.  Also with telecommunications, in which service changes, bill payment and account reviews can all be conducted from the same handheld device.  The service and retail industry has also been affected, as consumers are given the ability to place and pay for orders on-the-fly. Also information such as news reports and football results can now be received through your mobile phone.

Below is a little YouTube clip that I found quite interesting about technology and m-commerce, hope you enjoy it too.

"Theres no Business like Porn Business"

When I first got asked to write about the Porn industry I was a little embarrassed, mainly because being a girl we are not as open when it comes to talking about sex or porn. Little did I know its a business that earns $10 billion to $14 billion in annual sales! Its only when you take a minute to look around, porn is everywhere, on our televisions in the form of TV advertisements, in magazines and of course the dedicated porn channels and DVDs. But what I found funny was, when I was on my way into work and the bus stopped in traffic and bam, right in the middle of Dorset Street was a little "Adult Entertainment"  DVD shop, oh and they have a mini cinema.
It does really prove the point that sex sells. According to statistics Americans spent $4billion on renting and buying adult natured DVD's last year alone. The funny thing about that obscure figure, like normal DVD's people are buying less and downloading more. In 2001 alone there were 22.9million unique visitors to porn sites, and that number is growing on a daily basis. Another amusing fact is this figure is more than the visitors that visited news sites, finance sites or greeting card sites in the same year.

Another great thing about the porn industry is the development of the internet, video streaming, live chat, video conferencing and affiliated networks. The porn industry also were the ones to come up with geographical location and adult check verification. Up until the research I did for this blog and the information I received in E-business, I would have never thought that such advances would have come from the porn industry.
Like many others out there I associated the porn industry with negative thoughts, such a child porn and lonely perverts. But my opinion has changed, because Porn has done so much for internet technology. Oh and I have a greater sense of value for the industry since finding out its worth billions.

Heres a little song, thought it was appropriate :D

Im Irish "Get Me Out Of Here"

Right so, is it just me or is it becoming just a little bit embarrassing to be Irish these days?? Our Economy is in tatters and watching the news has become a chore. Its almost a sense of deja vu for Ireland, as the young people of Ireland are leaving to foreign shores again. Its not just America this time, they are flocking to Australia and Canada basically anywhere they can get a job. Recent statistics have shown that up to 200,000 people will leave Ireland over the next five years, which is huge amount considering we are only a small country.

When I was younger I was told by my parents if you want to get a good job go to college, but apparently thats not the case anymore. It has become difficult, even for the people out there with that piece of paper saying that they have a degree.I personally know students who have slaved away for three to four years in college, to end up working in the likes of Mc Donald's and Spar. Now dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with working in places like these, at the end of the day a job is a job especially in these difficult times. But I know personally I do not want all my hard work to be wasted. Thats the biggest annoyance of  all, there are hundreds of highly educated young people in Ireland and they are not being utilized  to their fullest potential. I just hope im not one of them!!

"I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay
Ain't it sad
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world
Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world "

Abba really knew what they were talking about didn't they....think it sums our Government up. Just like our fashion trends of the 80's have repeated themselves so has our economic situation.

The eat or shop dilemma!?!

"Best fashion tip we can give you? Self-confidence makes every outfit your best, every trend your own and every street you walk down a runway"
With quotes like that, its hardly a surprise that Forever 21 have so many devoted customers. With so much talk about the doom and gloom of our economy, getting a good deal just brightens our day. Like many other fashionistas who are in college, I am not fortunate enough to afford high end fashions and food. But thanks to the fact Forever 21 has come to our shores, we can now be fierce and fabulous without spending money that we dont have, oh and girls we can afford to eat too, which is a win win if you ask me!

Forever 21 not only is cheap, it offers the best knockoff designer items available on the high street. Not only are they knockoffs they are so close to the designers versions, that the company have found themselves in hot water with designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg for copying her designs. Of course there are difference between the designer and high street versions, but at the end of the day we are getting a bargain so we dont care.

So make sure you pop into Forever 21 in the Jervis Center to get all the latest bargains.
